Written stone

On the stones you will be able to see ancient carved drawings and inscriptions, probably left by our pagan ancestors. The oldest of these rock images were created even before the times of Kyivan Rus. Rumor has it that there used to be a pagan temple here.

Stone observatory

The former observatory is located on Mount Pip-Ivan Chornohirsky at an altitude of more than 2 km above sea level. The five-story stone building, intended for astronomical research, was open for only a few years – from 1938 to 1941. The walls of the building reach a thickness of 1.5 m.

During the Second World War, the observatory was used as an observation point for the Hungarian troops, after which it gradually began to fall into disrepair. Unfortunately, none of the building’s 43 rooms have survived today. Currently, restoration works are being carried out here and a mountain search and rescue post is operating.

In winter, the observatory is covered with ice and snow, which is why it was nicknamed the “White Elephant”. If you are worried about what to do in Verkhovyna, visit this attraction, because it will make an unforgettable impression on you.
