MONASTERY IN DZEMBRONYA

The village itself is a very unique and beautiful place. Firstly, this is the highest village of Ukraine. There are some houses on the Montenegrin ridge with one of the huts at an altitude of more than 1000 meters above sea level. Secondly, incredible landscapes and views are opened from there, which impress even a tourist who has seen many mountains before. Thirdly, Dzembronya is a sacred place where the Maguses lived and temples of various faiths were built. Probably the most interesting of them is the monastery of Vasilians, which is often referred to as the Ukrainian Athos. It is a wonderful place for people who need spiritual purification and solitude. This Greek-Catholic monastery has appeared here relatively recently – some volunteers started building in 2004. In a cozy temple, guests’ attention is immediately attracted to the iconostasis, because its icons are written on the glass.

CHURCH IN KRYVORYVNJA

Another interesting visit to the holy place of Verkhovyna is the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in the village of Krivorivnya. It was built almost 300 years ago – in 1719. All this time the church has been working properly and has never been closed. Liturgies and services were held by Andrey Sheptytsky and Vladimir Romanyuk, there were outstanding people, such as Mikhail Grushevsky and Ivan Franko. The building of the church is one of the most famous creations of Hutsul’s traditional architecture.
It is made of wood in a shape of cross. The internal walls are painted with tempera. As in the old days, the roof of the temple is covered with shingles. The church looks very organically and compactly, having a pyramidal silhouette. The temple is located on a small hill, so it can be seen from afar. By tradition, the church is open for guests who come here on excursion
